Well before Miami’s Sun Bowl loss to Washington State, we all knew Miami needed a coaching change. Former UGA coach Mark Richt is coming, and if there was still an lingering doubt that the Hurricane program needed a complete overhaul the Sun Bowl proved it.
Everything wrong with Miami football was on display. Undisciplined play, untimely penalties, dropped passes, and questionable play calling. It was all there to see. This was Miami football for most of the last decade. Presented with a chance for significant victory, Miami just found ways to lose.
That is happened today. Miami scores the go ahead TD. It is called back by penalty. Miami gets the ball back inside the 40 with a chance to drive for the winning score. They call a ridiculous Halfpack pass that gets picked off, that effectively ended the game.
The Miami program needs a complete overhaul. Anything and everything related to the Al Golden era needs to be removed. That means just about all of the old coaching staff. This team and this program doesn’t know how to win anymore. That’s been clear for awhile.
The good news is coaching change has been made. Mark Richt will be bring new life to the program and a new attitude. We can’t be sure Richt will turn the Hurricanes around, but we know what was there wasn’t going to.
I actually do think Richt will do some good things at Miami. There is some talent there. Brad Kaaya is a solid QB to build around. There is enough personal for Miami to win 9 or 10 games right away and contend for the ACC Coastal title next year.
Saturday just proved again how badly Miami needed a change. Thank goodness for that program it has already happened.
