I have to say narrowing down the top ACC Tight Ends, was the toughest set of position rankings yet. Tight Ends don’t often stand out statistically, but I think we’ve got 5 good ones here.

1) Eric Ebron, North Carolina
Picking the top 5 TE’s was a little tough, but it wasn’t tough putting Eric Ebron on this list. Ebron is coming off 2nd team All-ACC year in 2012. The 6-4 245 lb junior is a converted Defensive End, that’s a natural athlete. Last season he set a UNC TE record with 40 catches for 625 yards. He’s has all the tools to be future NFL TE.
2) Jake McGee, Virginia
Jake McGee had a very nice season at TE for the Cavaliers last year. He hauled in 28 receptions for 374 and 5 touchdowns. That included a 44 yard catch against Penn State. If there’s one question mark about McGee, it’s his ability to block. If he can improve that aspect of his game he’ll be a complete TE.
3) Nick O’Leary, Florida State
Nick O’ Leary came to Florida State as one of the most highly regarded High School Tight End’s in the country. O’Leary has been good, but not spectacular. Last year he had 21 catches for 252 yards. He has good size at 6-3 240 lbs, and can be a load blocking. Look for 2013 to be the O’Leary to reach his full potential even with a new quarterback at FSU.
4) Asa Watson, NC State
NC State’s Asa Amith is coming off a 24 catch for 282 yards year. Like O’Leary he was also one of the highest rated TE’s in country as a High Schooler in 2009. He made a big pass catching leap from 2011 to 2012. I’m seeing big things from the 6-3 238 lb senior this year.
5) J.P. Holtz, Pittsburgh
Here’s a player I think has some potential this season in the ACC. After a 13 reception 173 yard freshman season 2012, he’s the 2nd leading returning receiver at Pittsburgh. The 6-4 245 lb has good size, and showed decent hands when given the opportunity. I’m expect Pitt to make Holtz a bigger part of their offense this year. He’s was one of Pitt’s top recruits in their 2012 class.
