1) Jammie Robinson, Florida State
How good is Florida State safety Jammie Robinson? If you’ve read Lindy’s Sports Florida State preview Robinson is described as an “eraser who can play safety or nickel”. He had 85 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 4 interceptions in his 1st team All-ACC 2021 season. Robinson has been starring at safety since a stellar freshman season at South Carolina. He is considered to be one of the 10 best safeties in college football so keep an eye out for him this season.
2) Andrew Mukuba, Clemson
The already loaded Clemson defense has top-end talent at safety in Andre Mukuba. Mukuba was a consensus Freshman All-American last season and was named ACC defensive rookie of the year. Last year he was sat mid-season due to inconsistent play by the Clemson coaches, then his season took off.
If he puts it all together in 2022, Mukuba could be looking at an All-American type season. He’s that good.
3) Tanner Ingle, NC State
Already with the best linebacking unit in the ACC, NC State features one of the ACC’s top safeties in All-ACC performer Tanner Ingle. He had 82 tackles last year. That was good for 2nd on the Wolfpack. Ingle is a relentless player that is the backstop to the NC State defense.
The experienced Ingle is back for super senior season, and that helps give the Wolfpack one of the best defensive backs 7’s in the ACC.
4) Brandon Hill, Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh has pair of excellent safeties starting with Brandon Hill. Hill was a second-team All-ACC selection at Pittsburgh last season. He had 81 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 interceptions. He might play safety, but he hits like a linebacker.
He was a Jim Thorpe semi-finalist in 2021.
5) Eric Hallet II, Pittsburgh
If Brandon Hill doesn’t get you in the Pittsburgh secondary, then Eric Hallet II is back there. Hallet was an All-ACC honorable mention performer last season. He is strong in coverage or in helping against the run.
In 2021 he had 70 tackles and tied for the Pitt lead with 3 interceptions. Pittsburgh definitely makes a case for having the best pair of safeties in the ACC.
