Pitt defeated UC San Diego in an exhibition game tonight 72-59. Pitt was led by Talib Zanna's 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lamar Patterson (16 pts), Michael Young (11 pts, 4 rebs), and James Robinson (10 pts, 6 asts) also reached double-figures in the victory.
Pitt led most of the game, but UC San Diego had the game as close as 2 points with just over 4 minutes remaining before Pitt went on a run to close out the win.
The Panthers posted an offensive efficiency of 125 while winning the rebounding percentage battle on both ends of the court. Pitt turned it over on just 10% of their possessions while forcing UC San Diego to turn it over on 1 out of every 4 possessions. Pitt did struggle at the free throw line making just 63% of their 32 free throw attempts. On the other hand UC San Diego made 9 out of 11 from the line and more importantly made 10-24 from long range. The long distance accuracy led to an advantage in effective field goal percentage over Pitt.
