You might remember that incoming freshman Tra'Von Chapman was involved in an alleged assault back in April. Unsurprisingly, Chapman was suspended by head coach Paul Chryst until this all got sorted out.
If you were holding out hope that the situation would have a happy ending, you're likely not all that thrilled with the quarterback's recent guilty plea for attempted assault. Chapman will serve three days in jail, pay a fine, perform community service, and report to adult probation.
The criminal complaint, as we outlined before, wasn't pretty:
According to the criminal complaint filed in Portage County Municipal Court, Chapman “pulled the hair of [the woman] and grabbed her around the neck, leaving marks.”
So now what?
Obviously, speculation is running rampant. But when it comes to figuring out what type of reaction the coach will have, all we can focus on is his past history with disciplinary issues.
And based on that ...
Chryst has taken a hard stance with discipline in not allowing Rushel Shell to come back to the program and also in booting a couple of players present when a drug bust went down. There was also the Carl Fleming situation, which resulted in him being gone from the program (though, to be fair, I don't think I ever saw a final statement that he was kicked off the team). He could surely take a softer stance here, but that would go against what he's done in his brief history at Pitt.
The Post-Gazette's Sam Werner mentioned that we didn't hear from Chryst today, because he is unavailable due to traveling back from his day at ESPN on Sunday. Still, I don't know that a decision drags on all that long.
