Pitt men's basketball practice review: The Centers

A review of the centers after the Pitt men's basketball team practiced on Tuesday prior to their trip to the Bahamas.

We've already covered reviews of the guards and forwards from Tuesday's team practice, and here's a look at those expected to play some center for the team.

Overall, Mike Young looked tremendous. His shooting range has expanded considerably to the point in which he hit three-pointers fairly consistently, and he was able to crash the boards and help secure rebounds. Young is listed at 6'9" for this season and it would not surprise me if the Panthers started him at center.

All eyes have been on Joe Uchebo, who is still recovering from knee injuries. Uchebo is a former top-100 recruit and if healthy, there's a chance that he could grow into a large role with the Panthers. He rebounds incredibly well and has no problem throwing his body around in the paint. It still looks like he has work to do, though. He looks uncomfortable the second that he is pressured in the paint and is unable to get a quality shot attempt up nor control the ball. He didn't look nearly as dominant as some of those summer league performances.

Derrick Randall looked fairly impressive on the offensive side of the ball. He has always been a steady defender but shows promise of good things to come in the paint. However, due to issues revolving around a DUI charge, Randall may see some suspension time.

This is not going to the be the traditional Pitt basketball team that revolves around a strong and gritty big man to control the pace of the game. This is a fast team that has a plethora of three-point shooters, including Young.
