Pitt wins again on their exhibition tour in The Bahamas

Pitt won today's exhibition game over The Bahamas All Stars by a score of 113-59.  Much like yesterday's rundown, we will take a look at the box score from today's exhibition game today and see how the scholarship players fared.  It is pretty apparent that Pitt is not getting high level competition during these exhibition games, but the game situations and extra practice should help in the long run. Pitt went with a completely different starting lineup, and obviously Dixon is still in the early stages of trying to figure out this team's makeup as a whole.

-- Josh Newkirk got the nod at point guard today and had mixed results. Newkirk finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. All those numbers are solid, but 6 turnovers are less than ideal for a starting point guard. In all likelihood, these games aren't overly structured, and he may have tried to force the issue. I know a fraction of the fan base wants Newkirk to start, but in two exhibition games he is not overwhelming anyone yet.

-- Cameron Wright was the only player to start in both games, and it is pretty clear he is the most solid player in the starting lineup. Wright posted another solid game with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and a whooping 7 assists. If Wright can take on a play maker role like Patterson, Pitt will be in good shape. Yesterday he showcased an improved three point shot, and today with the passing was a good sign. Overall, Wright looks ready to elevate his game on all levels.

-- Jamel Artis went for 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Artis is one fighting for more minutes this season, and these are the types of games he can give you.

-- Sheldon Jeter looks to be playing as well as anybody so far. He posted 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jeter went an impressive 7-8 from the floor. Jeter is a real wild card for this team, and could work his way into the lineup if he continues to perform.

-- Big Joe Uchebo had 9 points and 13 rebounds. Rumors have been surfacing that the team from yesterday was rather small, so it is hard to gauge if the rebounding numbers mean anything against these teams. Still, Uchebo performed well in the Summer league and is definitely well ahead of where many thought he was going to be this season.

-- James Robinson had a much better showing than yesterday with 14 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and NO turnovers.  Robinson is a steady player, and he does frustrate people because he isn't the player they want him to be. Robinson is not flashy, he just plays and wins.

-- Chris Jones had 8 points and 5 rebounds. He has a lot to gain with Durand Johnson still recovering from his ACL tear, and Jones has played well all Summer long. It will be interesting to see if they continue to play him alongside the presumed starters again.

-- Derrick Randall posted 5 points and 3 rebounds. Randall was only listed having played 6 minutes today, a rather curios decision for someone who is supposedly a contender to start this year.

-- Michael Young posted an impressive 18 points and 5 rebounds. Young was 8-10 from the floor, and did not attempt a three. Young has people worried that he is not ready to rebound and may float on the perimeter, but scoring everything inside the three-point arc is encouraging. Some think Young may be the team's best player, and with him being named the MVP of the Summer league, and posting performances like this in The Bahamas, it is hard to argue that.

-- Cameron Johnson still looks like he is fighting to not be redshirted, and is giving them a good reason not to as of right now. Johnson was the only Pitt played to make a three in this game as he was 2-5 from behind the arc. Johnson may only be a shooter right now, but Pitt needs them.

-- Ryan Luther had 4 points and 1 rebound in 9 minutes of game action.

Pitt has an off day on Monday, before they get back to game action on Tuesday against the Street Legends All Stars at 9:00 PM. Jamie Dixon has tinkered with lineup in both games, and I expect him to continue to do that for the duration of the tour. Look for reactions on both the remaining games later in the week.
