Petrino Updates The Statuses Of Will Gardner And Reggie Bonnafon

Quarterback has been an area of concern for Louisville all season, but that concern was taken to a new level on Saturday when starter Will Gardner left the game with a knee injury in the third quarter. His primary backup, freshman Reggie Bonnafon, was unavailable because he was attending the funeral of his father.

Bobby Petrino updated the status of both quarterbacks on Monday, beginning with Gardner, who has a scheduled meeting with a team doctor later in the day.

"I don't know a whole lot just yet," Petrino said about Gardner's status. "He's swore, he's swelling; It could be a day-to-day deal. The exam on the field was stable, it didn't appear to be the same injury as before."

"The same injury as before" is a torn ACL, something which happened to Gardner twice before he ever took a snap at U of L. Saturday's injury occurred in the same right knee as the past two injuries, which is the reason more than a few people immediately thought the worst when the redshirt sophomore went down.

As for Bonnafon, he is listed second on this week's depth chart, and Petrino said he resumed normal football activities with the rest of the team on Sunday.

"Reggie was back yesterday," Petrino said. "He came in for the meetings and then he went out and practiced when the young guys practice."

Obviously, this is going to be an ongoing story throughout the week.
