Huge news for the 2021-22 Cardinal basketball season has arrived.

Ever since Louisville failed to hear its name called during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show six days ago, Cardinal fans have been desperate for a bit of good news. I think this will quality.

U of L senior center and co-captain Malik Williams has announced that he will be using the NCAA’s extra year of eligibility to suit up for Chris Mack one more time.

Our guy certainly understands timing.

Williams missed a chunk of the 2019-20 season and all but three games of this past season because of a right foot injury. As a junior two seasons ago, Williams averaged 8.5 points and 6.1 rebounds while also establishing a reputation for being one of the best defensive centers in the country. His efforts were rewarded by being the runner-up for the ACC’s Sixth Man of the Year award.

Selected by his teammates as a captain for a second straight season, Williams was never able to get the ball rolling on what was supposed to be his final collegiate season. Now, he’s giving himself an opportunity to right all the wrongs of his turbulent tenure at U of L.

It goes without saying that this is enormous, but let’s say it anyway: This is enormous.

Welcome back Malik.
