Lousville's Reggie Bonnafon will not travel to FIU

Louisville will be without the services of true freshman quarterback Reggie Bonnafon when the Cards take the field against Florida International this Saturday. Bonnafon will be attending the funeral of his father, Wallace, who passed away on Monday, and won't travel with the team to Miami.

Bonnafon has appeared in each of Louisville's last two games, completing 14-of-20 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown, and rushing for two more scores. His absence means that Will Gardner will be the unquestioned man at the quarterback position until the game is either over or put out of reach.

With Bonnafon out, it will likely be either senior Brett Nelson or redshirt freshman Kyle Bolin who serves as Gardner's primary backup. The safe money is on Nelson, who has been listed as Louisville's third-string quarterback in each of the first three games of the season.

You hate to see it happen under these circumstances, but a game where he's able to play without the worry of being subbed out after a mistake might be the perfect remedy for what's ailing Will Gardner. He'll spend the next three days knowing that he's the guy, and the only guy, on Saturday, and maybe that will help everyone a little bit after what happened last weekend.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Reggie and the Bonnafon family during this time.
