Fears over the demise of the modern Louisville-Kentucky football series have seemed to be around ever since the renewal of the series in 1994, but it appears those fears can be put to bed for another five years.

Kevin Kelley of FBSchedules.com obtained a copy of the contract extension from both school, which shows that the series will go on until at least 2019.

Back in August 2013, Kentucky and Louisville extended their contract through 2016 and included the following game dates:

  • Nov. 29, 2014 in Louisville, KY
  • Nov. 28, 2015 in Lexington, KY
  • Nov. 26, 2016 in Louisville, KY

The most recent extension to the contract, dated July 1, 2014 and signed by both athletic directors, continues the Kentucky-Louisville series on the last game of the regular-season:

  • Nov. 25, 2017 in Lexington, KY
  • Nov. 24, 2018 in Louisville, KY
  • Nov. 30, 2019 in Lexington, KY

A spokesman from Kentucky has since confirmed the extension.

It appears as though Thanksgiving weekend is going to be full of intrigue for the foreseeable future.
