The search is over.

After a search that was a bit longer and a bit more tumultuous than anyone had anticipated, Louisville has its new head football coach.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, U of L will introduce Scott Satterfield as the school’s 22nd head football coach. The Courier Journal was the first to report the news.

The U of L Athletic Association board of directors has announced a series of meetings beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The finance committee will meet at 4, the personnel committee at 4:10, and the full board at 4:20. Assuming that all goes according to plan, Satterfield is expected to be introduced to the public around 4:30.

A quarterback at Appalachian State from 1991-95, Satterfield has spent the bulk of his life working or playing for the Mountaineers. He was an ASU assistant from 1998-08 before serving as Toldeo’s quarterbacks coach in 2009 and Florida International’s offensive coordinator in 2010 and 2011. He called the plays in the Panthers’ 2011 upset of Louisville at Cardinal Stadium.

Satterfield returned to Appalachian State in 2012, serving as the offensive coordinator for one season before taking over as head coach, replacing longtime head coach Jerry Moore. Satterfield led the Mountaineers’ transition from the FCS level to the FBS, which took place in 2014. He leaves the program after producing a 51-24 overall record, and winning 10 or more games in three of the past four seasons. The Mountaineers have won conference championships in each of the last three seasons, and will play in a bowl game for the fourth straight year later this month.

No word yet on staff or contract figures, but expect those details to emerge as the hours and days go on.
