Louisville Holds On Against Virginia To Go Bowling

Louisville pulled away late, but still had to recover an onside kick to secure the win.

Louisville's 2015 Senior Day started off rough with Virginia going on a long drive on offense and putting up seven points rather easily. It didn't get much easier as the game went on with Louisville winning 38-31 over the Cavaliers. Kyle Bolin followed up his great performance against Syracuse with an inconsistent game, going 10-21 for 139 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Radcliff was the star of the game, running for 146 yards and two scores. Radcliff's monster second half was essential to Louisville's win.

The first half was rough on defense as they weren't able to get off the field on third downs. Virginia started the game with a 15 play drive which saw them convert four third downs. The defense's inability to stop Virginia's offense led to the the offense only being on the field for 9:54 of game play. The offense still put up 17 points and 8.2 yards per play. Bolin didn't have a great game, but a few big plays were made by Cole Hikutini and Jaylen Smith to put points on the board.

UofL's defense had a rough day containing Virginia quarterback Matt Johns and wide receiver Canaan Severin. Johns finished the game with four touchdown passes, three of which went to Severin. Coming into the game, Severin was the only passing threat Virginia had outside and Louisville failed to stop him. The defensive pressure got to Johns in the second half and got a few sacks, but overall the performance of the defense left a lot to be desired.

Virginia has played a lot of teams tough this year and that didn't change today. With a very good Pittsburgh team next up on the schedule, Louisville has to regroup on both sides of the ball. Pitt beat a Duke team with a good defense pretty easily today. Louisville will have to bring their "A" game if they want to knock off the Panthers who are still fighting to get to the ACC Championship game.
