After a week or so of rumors swirling, U of L has confirmed that center Aly Khalifa has been deemed ineligible to compete in the 2025-26 season by the NCAA.
Here’s the full statement from the school:
University of Louisville men’s basketball student-athlete Aly Khalifa’s request for an extension of his five-year clock that would allow him to utilize his fourth and final season of eligibility was denied by the NCAA. The University of Louisville is appealing that decision and believes that Aly has a strong case that warrants an additional year. After earning his bachelor’s degree, Aly continues to work towards a master’s degree at the University while preparing for the 2025-26 basketball season.
There’s still a lack of clarity on what exactly the issue is here, but I’m told U of L feels strongly enough about it that they will lawyer up and take things to court if need me. The good news there? The NCAA is about 0-763 in court cases over the last decade.
Here’s hoping this is all just a blip and Aly’s situation will get sorted out before summer practice sessions start. If it isn’t, Louisville just got even more thin at the center position.
