Pitt lands a linebacker

Cameron Bright made the call to commit to Pitt just moments ago.  He becomes the second player to commit this weekend following up quarterback, Kenny Pickett. Bright visited Pittsburgh last week, and returned this weekend to participate in one of Pitt's prospect camps and obviously the time was right for him to commit. Bright is a 6'1" 215 pound linebacker from Park Crossing in Birmingham, Alabama. Now, that's not usually a hotbed state for Pitt to recruit, and here's why, he originally hails from the Ohio. He played for North Ridgeville High School in the Cleveland area last season and rushed for 10 touchdowns and finished third on the team in tackles.  He chose the Panthers over offers from Bowling Green and Miami (OH). He does not have a ranking or any stars by his name by the main recruiting services.

In his film it's clear Bright is an aggressive defensive play maker. He flies to the ball, and hits hard. He is still on the smaller side physically for a linebacker, and he more resembles a safety at this time.  By looking at his size and ranking, it's obvious the staff sees him as a project and even a gamble. He has a good looking film, but Pitt is the only power five school to date to pull the trigger on him. We'll have to watch and see if more offers come in throughout the summer and his senior year.

It seems clear Pitt is trying to replenish and upgrade the linebacker position on the roster. Narduzzi and his staff brought in three linebackers last season, including blue chippers, Kaezon Pugh and Chase Pine. Those two were proceeded by touted players like Anthony McKee and Saleem Brightwell in the 2015 class. With Kyle Nunn and now Cam Bright, the staff may feel comfortable with bringing in two for this class.

We are now in the typical "June rush" of commitments.  Pitt has typically fared well in this month and they usually build the bulk of their recruiting class during this month, which coincides with their prospect camps. Expect to see more on the way in the coming weeks and days.
