Lamar Jackson once again a Heisman Trophy finalist

The reigning Heisman winner is headed back to the Big Apple.

For the second straight year, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is headed to New York as one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. If Jackson wins, he’ll become just the second two-time winner of the award, joining Ohio State’s Archie Griffin (1974 & 1975).

Jackson will be joined in New York by two other finalists: Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Stanford running back Bryce Love.

"I'm honored to be chosen as a finalist with these two outstanding players,” Jackson said in a statement. “They each had great seasons and deserve this tremendous honor. I want to thank all my teammates and coaches for achieving this honor together."

Even though it seems like a foregone conclusion that Mayfield is going to win the award, Jackson making it back to New York as a finalist (and potentially finishing second in the voting) is still a remarkable accomplishment. Here’s hoping he surprises everyone and brings home the hardware for a second straight year.
