At his Commissioner's Forum at the 2025 ACC Tipoff, Commissioner Jim Phillips talked about the decision for the ACC to go back to an 18-game conference schedule. He discussed how looking to improve team's chances to get into the NCAA Tournament played a role in the decision, and how real thought was given to protecting some of the conferences' best rivalry games.
