James Conner receives medical redshirt for 2015 season

Lost a bit in all of the hoopla after James Conner's knee injury in 2015 and later, his Hodgkins Lymphoma diagnosis, was the Pitt running back's eligibility going forward.

But some news broke during Pitt's spring practices this week in that Conner was listed as a redshirt junior on the roster sheet. Jerry DiPaola of the Trib seems like the first person to have noticed it. That means Conner would have received a medical redshirt for last year and actually has two seasons of eligibility left.

Getting a medical redshirt isn't all that surprising since Conner played only part of one game last season. But he officially seems to have gotten it per the tweets on Tuesday.

The exact impact of that can't be determined right now. Sam Werner of the Post-Gazette, for example, doesn't think Conner will use both. While I'd probably lean that way slightly, with him still working his way back onto the field, there are plenty of unknowns.

We all know Conner is working freakishly hard and that most expect him to play this year. He's at spring practices and working out with the team in a limited capacity. However, the chance still exists that he comes back later than expected and/or needs more polishing after missing so much time.

We'll see if Conner needs both years but the good news is that he has them if necessary.
