Jonathan Isaac has been solid this season, but has he been the best in the ACC early on?

Freshmen are coming in and making a bigger difference every year and early on this season, it has been no different this season early on.

Several players have already made their mark on their specific program, but who has been the best freshman in the conference so far, as we rank our top five early on.

1. Dennis Smith – NC State

Smith Jr. is one of the top players coming into the ACC and was certainly a name that made several All-American lists early on.  He hasn’t disappointed early on, averaging 16.2 points per game (leads ACC Freshmen), 32.2 minutes per game, and 4.5 assists per game.  The only knock you could have on Smith early on is that he is averaging 4.5 made field goals a game and averaging 12.5 shots, shooting 36 percent from the floor.

2. Frank Jackson – Duke

Jackson came in as the guy to run this Duke team at the point guard position and at times, it was in question on if he could run the team.  But there is one thing, Jackson has been a scoring guard that has brought another offensive dimension to the Blue Devils early on.  Has knocked down already some big shots for Duke as well.  Right now, he is averaging 15.6 points per game but only 2.0 assists per game, a number that would like to see go up.

3. Jonathan Isaac – Florida State

Isaac has really played well.  Not only is he averaging 14.5 points per game for the Seminoles early on, but is also shooting the ball very well (56 percent) and getting on the class, averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.  With Bacon and Isaac, there is no doubt that Florida State has two future pro prospects this season.

4. Dewan Huell – Miami

Huell has been the leading freshman scorer this season, shooting 67 percent from the floor and really has done well in other areas such as rebounding (6.7) and has yet to miss a free throw this season.  Huell is one of several freshmen that is on this team, but has played really well for the Hurricanes.  This big man will certainly play a big roll this season.

5. Tony Bradley – North Carolina

The reason we go with Bradley from UNC, is that the Tar Heels already had a solid group of big men with Isaiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks, but this young man, who is only averaging 17.5 minutes per game, is averaging 10.0 points and leads all freshmen with 7.8 rebounds per game.  He is shooting 64 percent from the floor and has been excellent on the boards, giving UNC a solid off the bench big man this season, something that could go a long way.
