Four-star cornerback Tre Shaw has announced his commitment to the University of North Carolina this evening. After releasing a top four consisting of UNC, Clemson, South Carolina, and Auburn University in June, Shaw made his decision known on his Twitter account.

He is considered the 289th-best recruit in the 2017 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and is believed to be the No. 30 cornerback and No. 30 prospect out of Georgia. We took a closer look at him a few weeks ago:

Shaw has been a standout talent of Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia. During his junior season, he averaged 13.6 yards per carry. ESPN has him doing a 4.78 40-yard dash with a 31.6 vertical jump. Shaw has family in North Carolina, but he would still be a huge out-of-state get for the Tar Heels.

Now that the Tar Heels have a verbal commitment from Shaw, he will join Traivon Leonard as another 2017 cornerback. He is their fifth four-star recruit after running back Adarius Lemons, offensive guard Jonah Melton, defensive end Jake Lawler, and athlete Ryan Jones. Next year's incoming class is looking good so far, but the work isn't done just yet.
