You #FireHam folks need to get out of the meth tank.

Let’s drop some truth here about Leonard Hamilton (h/t @YouTube for my new favorite song, Truth, from Universal Mind Project):

Here are some excerpts from Leonard Hamilton’s biography:

Leonard Hamilton is the winningest coach in Florida State history and is the 10th winningest all-time coach in ACC history. He became the Seminole’s all-time winningest coach as Florida State defeated Pittsburgh on March 7, 2015 and moved into a tie with Dave Odom of Wake Forest as one of the top 10 winningest coaches in ACC history with the Seminoles’ victory over Ohio in the third round of the Paradise Jam on Nov. 23, 2015.
…..
Hamilton is the only coach in league history to be the all-time winningest coach at two different ACC schools. Hamilton is also the winningest Division I coach at the University of Miami with 144 wins (1991-2000).
Under Hamilton and since the start of the 2005-06 season, the Seminoles are the third winningest overall program in the ACC with 230 wins and is one of only three teams that has won at least 60 percent of its games. Florida State is one of only three teams in the ACC that averages at least 21 wins or more per season and is one of only three teams that has won at least 20 games in a season at least seven times in the last 10 years.

Under Hamilton, the Seminoles have won at least 20 games in seven of the 14 years and have advanced to the postseason in ten of his 14 seasons at Florida State.

Hamilton has earned three National Coach of the Year awards, two Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year awards, two Big East Coach of the Year awards, led his teams to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and 18 postseason appearances, to the 2012 ACC Championship (as the head coach at Florida State) and to the 1978 National Championship (as an assistant coach at Kentucky). He is the only person to earn Coach of the Year honors multiple times in both the ACC and the Big East.
Hamilton led the Seminoles to the first ACC basketball championship in school history in 2012 (a feat that was thought to be unthinkable before Hamilton’s arrival in Tallahassee), [and] is among the leaders in the ACC and the nation in recruiting and coaching NBA talent.

That’s pretty damn good.

Now, yes, Seminoles fans, I hear ya when you say that you’re frustrated with the direction that the men’s basketball program is going. I know it’s been awhile since Florida State’s last NCAA appearance. I understand your frustration (no one understands it more than me – I’m a Virginia Tech fan and alumnus for heaven’s sake). That said, Florida State fans need a realistic view of their men’s basketball program – and I’m here to give it to you.

Florida State has the worst basketball facilities in the ACC. Straight out awful (hello, this is embarrassing). Florida State does not financially commit to men’s basketball facilities. This is something that Florida State fans like to forget.

Most Florida State fans are not true fans of men’s basketball. Let’s be serious here – in 2012, Florida State had 12 fans (being a little facetious here, but not by much) in Atlanta, GA when the Seminoles won the ACC mens basketball title. Why do you think Leonard Hamilton was lobbying for the Illinois job right after he won the ACC at Florida State? Men’s basketball support is really, really weak in Tallahassee.

It is amazing that Leonard Hamilton has been able to recruit top ten recruiting classes to Tallahassee, win an ACC title before he had those recruiting classes, and get to the NCAAs.

This program – right now today – is all Leondard Hamilton.

I hear your frustration on the lack of recent appearances in the NCAA tournament, Seminoles fans.

But, let me be clear with you:  The rebuilding job of Nebraska football will be nothing compared to what is going to happen at Florida State after Leonard Hamilton departs. You #FireHam folks have no idea how long it will take to rebuild Seminoles men’s basketball. You will not be hiring a five-star or four-star coach. You will be lucky if you get a three-star coach – and it’s either going to be someone older like Hamilton or it will be a young guy who had some head coaching experience as a mid-major. You think you’re having some bad years now? Just wait, little bros – just wait.
