From the Tipoff, the Clemson Tigers found themselves in a defensive battle with the Georgetown Hoyas. Clemson’s bench controlled the first half outscoring the Hoyas' bench 24–5, but momentum in the second half swung back and forth until the closing seconds. Georgetown led by nine with under two minutes left before Jake Wahlin drilled back-to-back threes to cut it to a one-possession game with :43 remaining. That was as close as Clemson came, as the Hoyas held on for a 79–74 win.
