Some interesting notes at the RB position.

Bobby Petrino met with the media following Wednesday morning’s Louisville football practice and served up a handful of noteworthy tidbits.

Among them:

—They had a live scrimmage a couple days ago and Malik Williams stood out at running back. Williams has always had speed, but in this scrimmage he impressed by breaking tackles and picking up yards after contact.

—Reggie had some really good runs as well, and he caught some passes out of the backfield too.

—Jeremy Smith was held out of the live action because he’s still not 100 percent. He could be good for full contact as early as Saturday.

—There’s still great competition in the secondary.

—Freshman linebacker Dorian Etheridge has been running with the first team and actually led all defensive players in tackles and production in the scrimmage. He’s playing alongside Stacy Thomas.

—Last year when Malik Williams got here he was way out of shape and way behind everyone. Now he’s one of our best conditioned players. He’s back to 100% after his MCL injury and he looks great out there.

—Freshman running back Colin Wilson is going to be out for a little bit after breaking a bone in his hand, but he’s going to be really good. He has great instincts and he’s big. He had surgery yesterday on the hand.

—Nothing has been settled as far as starters on the offensive line. Mekhi Becton has been running with the first team, and Lukayus McNeil has been working at both guard and tackle. Geron Christian and Cole Bentley have been working a little bit at center, but Robbie Bell and Nathan Scheler are still the two primary centers. It’s good competition, we should be better there. Kenny Thomas had a really good summer. He was really dedicated and changed his body.

—Mekhi makes all those other guys on the line look small. His body fat isn’t bad at all either, so he’s not going to have to lose much weight.
