The NFL's new season, it's centennial year, looks as strong as ever because of a new generation of quarterbacks and running backs looking to make their mark. From Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs to Ezekiel Elliot of the Dallas Cowboys to Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, the league is jet-fueled for unprecedented firepower as the old guard in each conference seeks to hold off the potential usurpers. The defending Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, are led by the ageless Tom Brady and although they represent the old guard, taking the crown from them requires great effort, great coaching and clutch time plays. Each division has its own drama and outcomes won't be decided until the season is deep into December, find out more about the NFL here. Let's take a look at some intriguing storylines within both conferences.

AFC

The Patriots have ruled the AFC East for the last decade and QB Tom Brady coupled with an improved defense, look to continue their success. The NY Jets have QB Sam Darnold and the Buffalo Bills have QB Josh Allen, and both look to improve on their rookie success while challenging the Patriots. The Jets added RB Le'veon Bell and MLB C.J. Mosely with the intent on rounding out a team ready for the playoffs. Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns will challenge Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers for the AFC North division crown with the winner being battle-tested by playoff time. The Browns added key skill players such as WR Odell Beckham Jr. to their arsenal while the Ravens acquired RB Mark Ingram to help their young QB, Jackson with his sophomore efforts. The AFC South's Houston Texans have mercurial QB Deshaun Watson and a J.J. Watt led the defense as they look to establish themselves as challengers to the AFC crown. They first must hold off the Tennessee Titans led by QB Marcus Mariota and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars signed QB Nick Foles in the offseason whose resume includes a Super Bowl MVP, so clutch play in December and January are something he has proven he can handle. In the AFC West, Mahomes and the Chiefs will be challenged by old guard QB Phillip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers along with the improving QB Derek Carr coached by Jon Gruden in Oakland. Mahomes and the Chiefs stand the best chance for challenging the Patriots due to Mahomes putting together one of the most spectacular years in 2018 and there is no reason to believe he will take his foot off of the gas pedal this year. Can the old guard QB's led by Brady, Roethlisberger and Rivers hold off young guns Mahomes, Mayfield and Jackson? Health, clutch play in December and emerging talent will have that answer.

NFC

The Los Angeles Rams represented this conference last year but Saints of New Orleans were very close and believe that this is their year. The conference boasts a bevy of young quarterbacks and, like the AFC, they are challenged by Super Bowl winning quarterbacks representing the old guard. Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys and Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles will battle for NFC east supremacy while the New York Giants' Eli Manning hopes to return to Super Bowl winning form with RB Saquon Barkley in tow. Dallas's Prescott already has a stud RB in Ezekiel Elliot who has claimed 2 out of the last 3 NFL rushing titles and does not look to slow down anytime soon. The NFC north's Green Bay Packers are led by old guard QB Aaron Rodgers as they look to avoid the injury bug and get their offense back on track. The Chicago Bears have their own young gun in QB Mitchell Trubisky and hope to combine him with a strong defense for divisional supremacy. QB Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings look to rebound from a disappointing 2018 and make their own claim to the divisional crown. The NFC south has old guard and playoff-tested QB's, Atlanta's Matt Ryan and the Saint's Drew Brees should battle each other for a high playoff seed. Both of these QB's have been to the Super Bowl and each has a supporting cast to help them get back there. The team waiting for them may come out of the NFC West. QB Jared Goff heads up a team with virtually the same lineup that made a Super bowl appearance last year but they will first have to defend their NFC west crown against the Seattle Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson. Seattle slipped a little last year but they have reloaded and are ready for a run. The Arizona Cardinals and overall #1 draft pick, QB Kyler Murray, promise to make a splash this year with a college style, high octane passing offense. Can one of the savvy, veteran QB's led by Rodgers, Brees and Ryan claim the NFC crown and fend off the challenges of Goff, Prescott and Wentz? All of these teams have reasons to believe they will vie for the conference championship for years to come. In the end, I believe the Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes will win a barn burner over the Drew Brees led New Orleans Saints. Let the games begin!
