The Virginia Tech Hokies won a 2-OT battle against Cal, 42-34 in Blacksburg. Hokies quarterback Kyron Drones threw for 119 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for another 137 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. Running back Marcellous Hawkins carried the ball 21 times for 167 yards for Virginia Tech and Takye Heath caught 2 of Drones’ TD passes. On defense for the Hokies, Kemari Copeland delivered 3 sacks and the same number of tackles for loss in the game. Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele threw for 286 and 1 touchdown and running back Kendrick Raphael had 3 rushing touchdowns in defeat.
