The Atlanta Journal Constitution has reported the ACC Network Launch has been delayed. Many of us expected the launch to be in 2017, but it appears ESPN has asked for delay of a couple of years.
I could try to sugar coat this news, and say oh it will launch in 2019 now, but can we be sure about that now? This is not good news. In a world where revenue generation is everything, the ACC is now without an apparent concrete plan.
There are so many questions now. What is next? Will the conference fall further behind the SEC and Big 10 in revenue? Are member schools now nervous about the future?
The one bit of positive news is that from the AJC article, the ACC could receive in an increase in their rights fees. That was at one time reported to $2 Million if an ACC Network did not come to fruition.
Let’s hope that’s true.
