It always amazes me how the games get so much closer in conference play. Perhaps the scouting reports are better, or familiar faces just bring out a different intensity. Virginia Tech and Miami played the first conference game of the basketball season and two teams couldn't decide on a winner after 40 minutes. The Hokies trailed for most of regulation but made more plays late and picked up a 61-60 win.
While FSU picked up an easy win over Jacksonville State, both Maryland and Boston College dropped games on Sunday. Maryland lost to George Washington 77-75, and trailed for double-figures for stretches of the second half before threatening late. George Washington's Maurice Creek hit this game winner to clinch it for GW.
The Eagles' loss drops them to 4-5 on the season. It's been a tough schedule for BC, but what started as a promising season has turned into a worst case scenario.
