Thoughts on the ACC's Bowl Matchups

The ACC set a NCAA record with 11 Bowl teams this year. Ok the ACC does have a 14 teams. Only the SEC has as many… Every found a home! Last year the ACC went 4-2 in the bowls. Can they have a similar bowl season?

How about some quick thoughts on each matchup?

Full Bowl Schedule

Thu, Dec 26 6 pm ESPN

Little Caesars Pizza Bowl
Ford Field, Detroit, MI
Bowling Green vs. Pittsburgh

Bowling Green would love to knock off an ACC team. This is a very dangerous game for a Pittsburgh team that lost 5 games by 11 points or less.

Fri, Dec 27 2:30 pm ESPN

Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD
Maryland vs Marshall

When C.J. Brown is healthy the Terps are pretty good. This is a game if Maryland is ready to go, they should win.

Fri, Dec 27 6 pm ESPN

Texas Bowl
Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX
Minnesota vs. Syracuse

Minnesota is a decent team, that finished 8-4 in the Big 12. Syracuse has been uneven this season, but they get a chance to finish the season on a high note.

Sat, Dec 28 3:20 PM ESPN

Belk Bowl
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
North Carolina vs Cincinnati

UNC played very well to end the season, and this is practically a home game for the Heels. Cincinnati is a decent opponent. This should be a good game.

Sat, Dec 28 6:45 pm ESPN

Russell Athletic Bowl
Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL
ACC No. 3 vs. AAC No. 2

Miami vs. Louisville

The Bowl game the Russell Athletic Bowl wanted this game and  they got it. I love this game. Both are good but flawed teams, and a bowl win would be a good stepping stone into next season for the winner.

Mon, Dec 30 3:15 pm ESPN

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
LP Field, Nashville, TN
Georgia Tech vs Ole Miss

This is one of my favorite ACC matchups. Paul Johnson could really use a bowl win after that Georgia loss. Ole Miss has some talent, but they aren’t an elite SEC type team.

Tue, Dec 31 12:30 pm ESPN

AdvoCare V100 Bowl
Independence Stadium, Shreveport, LA
Boston College vs Arizona

I think BC can win this game. Arizona comes in having lost 3 of their last 4. Boston College should ride that power running game.

Tue, Dec 31 2 pm CBS

Hyundai Sun Bowl
Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX
Virginia Tech vs UCLA

If the Virginia Tech team that won at Miami shows up, they can beat UCLA. Anything less and Bruins could roll. This is a very solid UCLA team.

Tue, Dec 31 8 pm ESPN

Chick-fil-A Bowl
Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
Duke vs Texas A&M

Texas A&M can’t play a lick of defense, but they can score on anyone. Johnny Manziel and that offense is a rough matchup for Duke.

Fri, Jan 3 TBD ESPN

Discover Orange Bowl
Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
BCS vs. BCS (ACC champion if not in BCS championship)

Clemson vs Ohio State

Two teams with excellent QB’s in Tajh Boyd and Braxton Miller and very suspect secondaries. The scoreboard will light up in this one.

Mon, Jan 6 8:30 pm ESPN

VIZIO BCS National Championship
Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
Florida State vs Auburn

Florida State can be the team to stop the SEC’s 7 year title run. They wouldn’t just be a national title team they can make history.
