ACC Basketball: Players of the Week Announced 1/5

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor has been selected as both the ACC Player of the Week and the ACC Rookie of the Week in a vote by a select media panel.

The ACC Player of the Week honor is the first of the season for the 6-foot-11 Okafor, who was voted the ACC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time. He is the first player during the 2014-15 season to sweep both ACC weekly honors.

Okafor averaged 26.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.3 blocks per game in leading Duke to home wins over Toledo, Wofford and Boston College. The Chicago native was 30-of-39 (.769) from the field and 19-of-28 (.679) from the foul line for the week. Okafor opened the week with 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting and eight rebounds. In a lopsided win over Wofford, he went 11-of-13 from the field and finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Okafor capped off the week with 28 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in Duke’s ACC opener against Boston College. He was 7-of-11 from the field and 14-of-17 from the foul line in the win. Okafor set a Duke freshman record with 14 made free throws and also established a new Duke freshman ACC-debut record with 28 points.

Okafor now has six 20-point games on the year (six in the past eight games) and is leading the ACC in scoring (19.5 ppg.) and field goal percentage (.682).
