Did you know that Villanova had the 2nd most localized roster of any team in college basketball last year?  Jay Wright didn't have to go far to find an NCAA champion.  Here's a fascinating article that looks at player's hometowns and where they end up.

There's a ton of interesting info at that link, and here's another example.  Here's a heatmap of where ACC players come from.

Here's a few more nuggets

  • The average basketball player (960 miles) travels more than 2x the distance football players (446 miles) do for college.
  • 11% of college basketball players are born outside of the United States.
  • Defending champ, Villanova, has the second most localized roster with an average distance from home to school of 128 miles.
  • Maryland sends the 10th most players to Division 1 schools, but when factoring in population, it produces the most players per capita.

Check out the whole article for much more.
