One for every minute.

If you haven’t yet, take the 10 minutes out of your day that it requires to watch the first extended Louisville men’s basketball video of the 2021-22 season. You won’t regret it.

Bam:

Ten thoughts for 10 minutes:

1. The footage from the Selection Show watch is brutal, but I’m really glad they used it. Attempting to bounce-back from the heartbreak of being the first team left out of the tournament is the obvious headline theme of the offseason, and it would have been wrong for the video to start anywhere else and even worse for it to gloss over the agony completely.

2. At least we got to see the adidas postseason shirts once.

3. I believe the book Chris Mack is reading near the beginning of the video is 10-Minute Toughness by Jason Selk, which is actually a mental toughness training program for athletes. You can learn more about the program here.

4. Lot of early 2000s Ricky P vibes from this Taylor Barnette picture:

This needs to be the sideline/bench mentality all winter long. The energy over there needs to be about three times what it was in 2020-21.

I will not stop mentioning this. Covid isn’t an excuse either. Baylor had one of the most intense sidelines I’ve ever seen last season. Not saying that’s the reason they wound up being the last team standing, but it certainly didn’t hurt.

5. I’ll take all the Ross McMains coaching footage I can get.

6. Putting Mack’s comments about playing faster and spacing the floor is the latest piece of evidence that all of this is more than just offseason lip service. I don’t think the Cards are going to be back down in the 300s in tempo again next season.

7. The Christen Cunningham vibes continue to be strong with Jarrod West. That’s a compliment.

8. Mike James and Roosevelt Wheeler both certainly pass the eye test. They look like a pair of guys who should be able to step right in and compete physically in a league like the ACC. Also, Wheeler sort of looks like Chane Behanan in the face. That’s also a compliment.

9. I’m not sure I’ve ever had less of a grasp on a Louisville basketball team five months before the start of a season, but here we are. It’ll just make it that much more enjoyable if they wind up overachieving in a big way.

10. The biggest constant during this up-and-down start to the Chris Mack era at U of L has been the video department consistently putting out Grade A product. It looks like that trend will continue in 2021-22. Great work to all involved.
