UNC will play in a secret scrimmage game for the second-straight season.

The North Carolina Tar Heels 2017-18 college basketball schedule is already set but the team has added another secret scrimmage to get ready for the upcoming season.

These secret scrimmages have become popular over the years with teams traveling to other schools for a game just ahead of the start of the season.

Last year UNC went to Memphis to play the Tigers in a gym with no cameras and only staff members, players and school officials in attendance.

And now according to Inside Carolina, the Tar Heels are headed back to Memphis.

The site is reporting that UNC will play their secret scrimmage game at Memphis for the second-straight season.

The game is set for October 20th and is closed to the public and media.

UNC won last year’s secret scrimmage that was broken down into two halves by a combined score of 87-62. The team then went on to open the season with a win over Tulane on November 11.

Memphis is coached by Tubby Smith who is entering his second season with the Tigers after previous stops at Kentucky, Georgia, Minnesota, Tulsa and Texas Tech.

Smith is also close friends with UNC head coach Roy Williams.

The Tar Heels have participated in secret scrimmages in the past including taking on Vanderbilt three times in the past 10 years.

UNC will open their title defense by hosting Northern Iowa on November 10th and then Bucknell on the 15th.

Their first road game will come at Stanford on November 20th before playing in the Phil Knight 80 Invitational in Portland Oregon.

UNC’s schedule also includes nonconference games against Michigan, Tennessee and Ohio State.

Check back for more on the Tar Heels basketball program as we continue to countdown the days until tipoff.
