Tyler Boyd Injury Update: Pitt wide receiver has dislocated finger but could play against BC

Not lost in Pitt's blowout win on Saturday against Delaware was the fact that the team lost their best player, wide receiver Tyler Boyd, to injury.

The true sophomore had gotten off to a great start, returning the opening punt 35 yards to set Pitt up for their first score then added a touchdown catch later in the quarter to put Pitt up 14-0.

On another punt return in the second quarter, though, Boyd suffered an injury, dislocating a finger. Boyd missed the rest of the game and left Pitt fans wondering about his status.

The dislocated finger report isn't great, but it could also have been far worse. Boyd will have some pain, but could be back in the lineup soon. The Post-Gazette's Sam Werner said after the game, in fact, that head coach Paul Chryst expected him to be back for the Panthers' game against Boston College on Friday.

The AP's Will Graves also says the same:

If that happens, it will be big for Pitt. They didn't need Boyd against Delaware, but face a big step up in competition against BC. Two problems here, of course. First, even if he does play, he may not be 100%. Also, with the game on Friday, Boyd's finger will get even less rest than a full week.

Let's hope he's not only able to play, but also recover quickly.
