The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 7.
Does Georgia Tech get to 6-0 against Virginia Tech?
Coming off a BYE week, Georgia Tech “should” get to 6-0 at home against Virginia Tech, but the Wake Forest game raised serious concerns. As a double-digit favorite, the Jackets barely escaped Wake Forest. This is a team that struggles against the run as well. On the other hand, only a handful of teams in the country are undefeated,d and Georgia Tech is one of them. QB Haynes King is the heart and soul of this, and Wake Forest might have just been the wake-up they needed. We will find out Saturday, and I believe the BYE week will give Georgia Tech the reset they needed.
Is FSU going to get back on track?
FSU has gotten plenty of life out of that win over Alabama, but the fact remains the Noles have lost 9 of their last 10 ACC games. They are, without question, better than last year’s 2-10 version, but are they really a top 25 team? I think they are, and the two losses were against a Miami team that might be the country’s best team, and a Virginia team that is a legitimate threat to get to Charlotte. Pittsburgh is a reasonable test. The Panthers are a decent opponent, but one that’s failed to hold 4th quarter leads against West Virginia and Louisville. I have a feeling FSU will be out to prove something against Pitt on Saturday.
Has Bill Belichick coached his last game at UNC?
Whatever you thought about the worst case for UNC football this season, it’s currently worse. Barring a crime being committed by someone associated with the UNC football program, this experiment has been a total disaster. The Heels are terrible on the field, and joke off of it. There’s now a discussion of NCAA violations and buyout. UNC doesn’t have a game this week, but there are those who think the BYE week is enough time to get the UNC situation sorted out. I think the powers that be will let Belichick finish out the season. They will see how things go, but the rumors are real, and Belichick is in trouble. The situation is an embarrassment there.
