The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 6.
Does Florida State rebound against Miami?
Florida State went to Virginia and lost 46-38 in OT to a rock solid Cavalier team. There are still plenty of concerns if you’re a Nole’s fan though. . That was a makeshift Virginia offensive that worked over FSU’s defensive front. Miami is among the best teams in the country on both lines of scrimmage, but I know what I saw with FSU in week 1 against Alabama. FSU dominated the Tide up front. Sometimes, a good team has an off week against dangerous opponents. I still think Florida State is a good team, actually a really good team. It’s in Tallahassee, and they are good enough to knock off the Canes. It wouldn’t shock me in the least if Florida State wins this game.
Is the winner of Miami and FSU going to playoffs?
Book it… Miami, with wins over FSU, South Florida, Florida, Notre Dame, and a top 2 or 3 ranking, isn’t cracking down the stretch like last year, and they aren’t losing more than 1 game. 11-1 Miami is in, and even if they go 10-2 with the quality of wins they have, they are in. FSU already has that elite win over Alabama, and throw in a victory over Miami, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better pair of wins by anyone in the country. The Noles could even afford to lose another game and be 10-2 and would make the playoffs. It would take something catastrophic for the winner of this game not to make the playoffs.
Does Cal, Duke, Louisville or Virginia become a dark horse contender in the ACC this week?
Miami and FSU are considered the ACC’s best teams. Georgia Tech is in the top 20 5-0 (2-0), and is in position to contend for a trip to Charlotte. So who could be that 4th ACC team that can make a run? Cal, Duke, Louisville, and Virginia face off against each other this weekend. Cal and their freshman phenom QB have been great all year, save that bizarre 34-0 loss to San Diego St. Duke is starting to play well and just blew out Syracuse at Syracuse. Louisville is 4-0, and Virginia just beat Florida State, and Chandler Morris has been fantastic at QB. I’m not ready to declare the winner of Cal/Duke an ACC threat just yet. They’ve just been a little too inconsistent, but now I’m ready to say the winner of Louisville and Virginia could pose a real threat to the top of the conference.
