The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 5.
Does Virginia have a shot against Florida State?
Florida State played outstanding, thumping Alabama in week 1, and then overmatched their next 2 opponents, East Texas A&M and Kent State. Virginia might have their best team of the Tony Elliot era. They aren’t great defensively, but that D is better than they are given credit for. QB Chandler Morris has quietly been very good, and the Hoos are 1 play from being undefeated. Their offense can cause a lot of problems. Virginia definitely has a shot to pull the upset. This is the classic trap game. A highly ranked team, with a showdown game looming after (Miami), against a flawed but dangerous team on the road. If FSU isn’t fully paying attention, Virginia has enough to throw a scare into the Noles.
Does Louisville prove it’s for real against Pitt?
Louisville is nearly a month into the season and hasn’t played a P4 team yet. They haven’t even gone on the road yet, but they are 3-0. Pittsburgh should be 3-0, but couldn’t beat a bad West Virginia team with a double-digit 4th quarter lead. Pitt is better than that West Virginia loss, but if Louisville is for rea,l they don’t lose to Pitt. I like where the Cardinals are defensively, and I think they can shut down the Panthers’ offense.
Does Georgia Tech get to 5-0 against Wake Forest?
Georgia Tech handled their game first after getting ranked, dispatching of Temple 45-24 in a game Temple scored as the clock ran out. Wake Forest struggled to beat Kennesaw State 10-9, and got outscored by NC State 17-0 in the 2nd half to lose 34-24. Georgia Tech should win, but this is still a position that’s new to them. One where they are heavily favored with CFP and ACC Title aspirations, and not just the plucky underdog. The rushing defense has been underwhelming, and the Deacs have one of the best RBs in the ACC with Demond Claiborne. If Georgia Tech plays a clean game, they cruise, but they’ve only done that in 1 of their 4 games. Georgia Tech has been good, but I don’t think we’ve seen their best football yet. They get closer to that this weekend, as the stakes keep rising in Atlanta.
