Swinney Appears Ready to make way at Clemson

For many college football teams, an opening to the new season where the record stands at 6-3 would be acceptable. However, for a side with great aspirations such as the Clemson Tigers, it’s not quite good enough.

In fact, there are suggestions that one more defeat will be enough to see Head Coach Dabo Swinney be forced to leave the hot seat. Sport can be brutal at times and, like the pro ranks, colleges have little patience in such a competitive environment.

Tigers yet to Roar

Those early results show that the Alabama Crimson Tide are the clear favorites to win the College Football Championship at the end of the current season. Saudi Arabian sports betting sites are in agreement with others around the world who list Alabama ahead of their nearest challengers the Georgia Bulldogs.

Other college sides who are still given a chance of glory include Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines. The Clemson Tigers are in the mix but clearly there is a ton of competition.

Those odds are supplied by arabianbetting.com who will continue to update the markets in reaction to ongoing results. The panel of recommended sportsbooks are also ready to take on new registrations and it’s possible to find some generous sign up deals along with ongoing promotions for existing account holders.

Once registered, players can find a selection of deposit and withdrawal options and the bookmakers will cover many other events in college sports, NFL and beyond.

Clemson Tigers may not be the first name on every bettor’s lips but what can Dabo Swinney do to turn around their season and change his job?

In the Balance

Having impressed in preseason, the Tigers simply haven’t carried that form through to the matches that really count. There will be some stiff challenges ahead but many feel that Swinney’s job depends entirely on Clemson’s performance against one of the weaker teams.

UConn are next on the horizon and there are good reasons why this game is seen as a must-win for Swinney and his charges. Here we have a team who ranks near the bottom of the table in nearly every defensive and offensive stat as they start the new season with a poor run of results.

If Clemson can’t ease past the struggling UConn, then surely that’s a damning indictment of where this team is currently at. There are bigger sides waiting beyond UConn but losing would set a very low benchmark and it’s hard to see how the Tigers can recover.

Proud Achievements

Many Clemson fans would be sorry to say goodbye to Dabo Swinney. In modern times when few coaches are really given a chance, he’s been in charge of the Tigers since midway through the 2008 season.

In his 13 years with the college, the Tigers have won two National Championships - in 2016 and 2018. The team were ACC Atlantic Division Champions on seven occasions in a run that includes five straight successes from 2015 through to 2019.

They’ve dominated the ACC so this mixed start to the new season does represent a very big fall from grace for one of the greats of college football. As we’ve seen from the sportsbooks, the verdict is that Clemson are unlikely to make it beyond the regular season while their chances of another outright championship are negligible.

That’s the backdrop to a potential firing that seemed implausible at the start of the campaign.

What Comes Next?

Even if Dabo Swinney does come through the challenge put up by UConn, there will be tougher games in store. With the axe seemingly hovering above his head, the coach may even decide to walk before he is pushed.

At the age of 51, Swinney has at least ten years left as a full time football coach. This may not be his best campaign but that record of success means that many colleges would be happy to bring him in. It’s also not inconceivable that a team in the NFL may be prepared to give him a chance to step up into the professional ranks.

Clemson would have to start again but there would be no shortage of applicants for one of the most coveted positions in college football.
