The former Louisville coach called Stallings ...

Pitt head coach Kevin Stallings made headlines on Tuesday night after responding to hecklers during a 77-51 loss at Louisville. Specifically, he shouted into the stands, “At least we didn’t pay our kids $100,000,” according to multiple reports.

The coach’s taunt was in reference to an FBI investigation into corruption in college basketball. In the investigation, it was alleged that recruit Brian Bowen was paid $100,000 to play for Louisville. Former Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino lost his job over the allegation, and on Wednesday, he responded to Stallings’ comment.

David Harten of The Courier-Journal reported that Pitino sent a text message to John Ramsey, the host of a sports talk show on Louisville’s 790 KRD. In the message, he said, “Stallings is a jackass,” and told Ramsey he could quote him.

Perhaps for the best, Stallings hasn’t publicly responded to Pitino as of Thursday afternoon.

After Tuesday night’s loss, Stallings is 0-3 against Louisville as Pitt’s head coach and 0-4 overall. The Panthers and Cardinals meet again on Feb. 11 in the Petersen Events Center.
