We are continuing our ACC player rankings with a looking the conference’s Running Backs. There are some good ones in the ACC this year.

Previous and Upcoming Rankings

Quarterbacks | Wide Receivers | Offensive Linemen | Tight Ends | Defensive Linemen | Linebackers | Cornerbacks | Safeties | Special Teams

1) James Conner, Pittsburgh

First year Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi is going to be blessed with some of the best skill position talent in the not just the ACC, but the country. RB James Conner is coming a 2014 season, that saw him run for 1,765 with while averaging nearly 6 yards a carry. He scored 26 TDs, and was named the ACC’s offensive player of the year. He’s on a number of pre-season All-America teams, and is projected as a 1st or 2nd round NFL pick.

He’s an absolute tank at 250 lbs, and he’s faster that you would think. Conner is simply one of the 4 or 5 best running backs in the country.

2) Dalvin Cook, Florida State

Mark this down, Dalvin Cook is a future All-American at Florida State. Last year as a true freshman he finished with just over 1,000 yards rushing. He’s fast and can run with power. Cook is a 5 star recruit, that has lived up to the hype. He was named the ACC Championship Games MVP in 2014.

If Cook continues his development, he may end up being the best RB ever to wear a Florida State uniform, and that is saying something.

3) John Hiliman, Boston College

The ACC is loaded with young RB talent. We’ve already talked about Dalvin Cook, and now we move on to Boston College’s good looking sophomore RB John Hiliman. In his freshman year he had 860 yards rushing to go along with 13 TDs. That was good enough to make him a 3rd All-ACC player. I fully expect Hiliman to put together 1,000 yd +, 10 TD+ plus this year.

4) Wayne Gallman, Clemson

Wayne Gallman really showed his ability towards the end of last year. He had 3 100 yard games in his final 4 regular season games, including nearly 200 against arch rival South Carolina. Gallman had 769 yards running for a 4.8 yards per rush. He’s a versatile back too, hauling in 24 receptions.

Gallman has good speed, and we should see even bigger things from him this year.

5) Joseph Yearby, Miami

I’ve got Joseph Yearby 5th on this list. Other ACC running backs are coming off years with better stats, but playing behind Duke Johnson will limit your playing time. I think Joseph Yearby is going to take off this year. Last year he had 509 yards on just 86 carries, while averaging nearly 6 yards a carry. I like Yearby’s speed, and he has decent power. It is vision and cutback ability that makes Yearby a potentially great runner.

I believe you’re going to see a breakout year from Yearby in 2015.
