The injury brings Browne’s college career to an end.

Max Browne’s college career has come to an end due to the injury he suffered to his right shoulder against Syracuse on Saturday.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi announced on Thursday afternoon that Browne underwent surgery on his shoulder on Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the season as a result, according to Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The injury occurred in the third quarter of Saturday’s game, when Browne was sacked by Alton Robinson of the Orange. He came out of the game and was later seen on the sideline with his right arm in a sling. After the game, Narduzzi said that Browne would likely be out “a couple weeks,” though that unfortunately proved too optimistic.

The USC graduate transfer was just beginning to live up to the five-star rating he earned coming out of high school, as he had a career game against Rice in Week 5 in which he threw for 410 yards and four touchdowns and completed 28 of his 32 passes.

With that performance, Browne had effectively put an end to the long battle between himself and Ben DiNucci for the starting job, and although Pitt’s offense struggled against Syracuse, Browne showed promise, leading the Panthers down the field on three scoring drives and completing 68.2 percent of his passes for 161 yards.

Browne finishes his college career with 1,647 career passing yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. He completed 66.8 percent of his 247 career passes, and the bulk of his production came during his six games with the Panthers.

With Browne out, DiNucci will start at quarterback against No. 20 North Carolina State at Heinz Field on Saturday, and Kenny Pickett will back him up.
