Pitt should be on upset alert against Fresno State

After an easy victory against Savannah State on Friday, Pitt figures to have a stiffer test tonight against Fresno State. If the Panthers are wise, they won't be taking the Bulldogs lightly.

Pitt should win this game - perhaps even comfortably. But they also shouldn't be expecting to coast tonight.

Fresno State has played some major programs closely over the years - on the road. For that reason, they won't likely be intimidated by the Pete (which will almost certainly feature a light crowd, anyway).

The Bulldogs lost by only two points on the road against Texas last season in the team's opening game. They also played UCLA respectably, losing by only 13 in another road contest. They also impressed away from home the year before, losing to Oregon by only four and beating Arizona State in road games.

No, I don't expect Pitt to lose in this game. Fresno State played virtually no defense and didn't rebound well in their opener against UC Irvine, and I think Pitt will take advantage of those apparent deficiencies. Still, there's enough of a track record there that Pitt shouldn't be expecting a cakewalk.

Below is the relevant information for tonight's game.

Matchup: Pitt (1-0) vs. Fresno State (1-0)

Time: 7:00 p.m.

TV: ACC Network (Root Sports in Pittsburgh)

Notes: Talib Zanna expected to return from one-game suspension
