The Panthers came back from down 14-0 to survive and get a win over the Hokies, 35-33. After falling behind 14-0, Pitt scored 35 of the next 45 points. Virigina Tech had a chance to win the game on a 36-yard field goal as time expired, but the kick went just wide. The Pitt defense forced four turnovers and had two sacks and five tackles for loss. Pitt quarterback Mason Heintchel left the game with an injury, and Holden Geriner came in and completed 8 of 12 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Running back Ja'Kyrian "Boosie" Turner ran the ball 14 times for 65 yards and a touchdown, and he caught six passes for 35 yards. For Virginia Tech, quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer threw for 434 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions on 30-41 passing. Wide receiver Que'Sean Brown caught seven passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.
