We are at that point in the summer where all the previews are coming out nationally. We are doing ACC football preview podcasts and posts here at AllSportsDiscussion.com. Recently Phil Steele released his pre-season All-ACC football teams for 2015. One of the things I like about what what Steele does is that he has a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th team All-ACC.
With that, you can see some guys on the 3rd and 4th teams, that are solid players, but may be coming under the radar.
A few highlights
- Justin Thomas of Georgia Tech was named 1st team All-ACC at QB. That proves just how much respect Thomas is starting to gain nationally as the ACC is loaded at QB.
- 7 Virginia Tech defenders were on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd team All-ACC defense. That defense is loaded.
- 4 of the 5 North Carolina offensive linemen made the All-ACC lists.
- Syracuse didn’t have one player to make any of the first 3 All-ACC teams on offense or defense. The Orange could be in for a very long season.
- Miami didn’t have a single 1st team All-ACC player. That’s not a good sign for a program that many thought had recruited reasonably well.
- 1st team All-ACC RB James Conner and Dalvin Cook may make up the best pair of backs in the country. At they very least they are on the short list with SEC’s Nick Chubb of Georgia and Derrick Henry of Alabama or Leonard Fournette of LSU. Ezekiel Elliot of Ohio State is the only other back in country that is among those 5.
- 4 All-ACC 1st team players for Florida State seems like a low number for them. We know FSU has recruited at an elite level, but with so many of their players going to the NFL in recent years, some talented, but unproven young players will have to step up. I also think other ACC teams have elevated their talent levels.
