When I saw Miami at 12 in the latest CFP poll, initially, I thought that’s not good for Miami. Then Notre Dame dropped a spot to 10. Oddly enough, Alabama moved up a spot after barely surviving 5 win Auburn. Nevermind, they have a loss to one of the ACC’s worst teams, Florida State. That’s another story, but this is the scenario I think plays out.

Prediction on the final playoff spot:

Putting Notre Dame, BYU, Miami in order this week is strategic.
If BYU loses, Notre Dame/Miami are ranked next to each other, and Miami moves up.
If BYU wins, Texas Tech is in - and neither ND or Miami gets in

If Miami and Notre Dame are next to each other, then the H2H result where Miami beat Notre Dame has to be taken into account. The committee in the past tried to argue that they were not in the same tier. Well, they would be if BYU loses and drops a spot, and Miami is theoretically 11, and Notre Dame 10.
With teams side by side, how would you not compare them and use a head-to-head result?
If BYU wins the game, then the Big 12 gets two teams, and Notre Dame gets left out.
This is the worst possible scenario for Notre Dame. You either are left out entirely, or the last spot becomes a side-by-side comparison against a team that beat you.
If I’m Miami, I’m rooting for Texas Tech, like you went to school there.
