Game Recap

Did Miami do anything right on Sunday night because I’m drawing a blank here. I guess not quitting to make the score closer than it really was counts for someting, but in reality from Mark Richt down to the water boy, it was a completely embarrassing performance by the Hurricanes.

LSU is a decent team, but that isn’t a team that’s going to compete for a playoff spot. Ed Orgeron isn’t getting confused with Nick Saban anytime, but to their credit they played smarter, better, and more fundamentally sound that Miami. Joe Burrow isn’t going scare anyone at QB either, but he was far far better than Miami QB Malik Rosier.

That’s what makes this loss so disturbing for Miami. Malik Rosier showed absolutely no improvement from last season. He was erratic as ever. Miami was an undisciplined mess Sunday night committing mental mistake after mental mistake.

The Canes are now are on 4 game losing streak – 3 by double digits, and 1 to a Pitt team that didn’t reach a bowl. Clemson routed Miami, but that was a playoff caliber team. LSU as I said isn’t, and they wiped Miami out nearly the same way. You could say it was just 1 bad game, but it isn’t – that’s 4 in a row.

I told you in a past blog post there was a scenario that I could see Miami going 7-5 this year, and that wasn’t if they had a slew of injuries.

Will Go 7-5 (4-4) if:
They go 0-3 against LSU, Florida State and Virginia Tech. This can certainly happen if the QB play is shaky. That’s not a position Miami comes into season feeling secure in especially with Malik Rosier’s up and down play last year. There are couple of other dangerous games like road games at Boston College and at Georgia Tech. 4 of those games are in Miami’s final 6 games.

Remember despite Miami’s 10-0 start, they won 4 games by single digits. They split those games, and Miami isn’t reaching the top 10 or the ACC Championship Game. A struggling QB and an offensive line that isn’t better, and Miami’s program momentum could hit a speed bump.

I’m not saying that’s what will happen after 1 game, but Mark Richt has serious issues to deal with especially at the QB position.

Miami’s play Sunday can be summed by a dreadful sequence at the end of the first half. Prepared to get the ball at mid-field with a punt from LSU, the Canes committed back to back penalties, LSU got a first down and ran out the clock.

Nothing more needs to be said.
