Jared Wilson-Frame will remain at Pitt

Jared Wilson-Frame, Pitt’s top scorer from the 2017-18 season, will remain with the team after it was announced Tuesday that the university had hired Jeff Capel as its new head coach.

Wilson-Frame previously requested and was granted his release from the program on March 17, but it was reported by Mike Vukovcan of Pittsburgh Sports Now and confirmed by Craig Meyer of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he has decided to play his senior season at Pitt.

The guard averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season, despite a tendency to struggle with shot selection. He was brought in by Stallings as a junior college transfer, and prior to joining the Panthers, he enjoyed a successful run at Northwest Florida State College, where he averaged 15.4 points and converted 37.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

In total, nine players requested their release from the program and two signees reopened their recruitment during Pitt’s coaching search, but the hire appears to have stemmed that potential roster turnover, as Vukovcan noted another player will soon announce he’s staying as well.
