Greg Anthony is a fan of this year's Pitt basketball team

Pitt hasn't gotten a whole lot of respect nationally thus far. Despite being undefeated heading into this week, the Panthers haven't gotten much respect in the polls and are one of the lower-rated unbeaten teams still left.

Count former NBA guard and current CBS analyst Greg Anthony among those who think Pitt is the real deal:

Anthony said that it’s hard to get a firm grip on just where this team is at the moment because they have not been really challenged by anyone yet on their schedule, but he said it’s an experienced team and a really impressive team on defense.

“I like this group,” Anthony said. “I like the experience. I would put them in the upper echelon in the conference."

He said he may only give Syracuse a slight edge in the ACC.

I've said it before, but I'm pretty convinced this is a very good team. They may not be top ten good, but Pitt is a legitimate top 15-20 team in my mind regardless of what the polls say. They've really only had one close call so far, against Penn State.

Whether Pitt may not be better than teams like Duke or North Carolina this year as Anthony seems to indicate, but this is a very good team that will finish among the ACC's top 4-5 teams I think. Good to see at least one national guy giving Pitt some credit.
