FSU Misses Out on Jermaine Marshall

Florida State’s summer of rejection continues.  Penn State transfer Jermaine Marshall visited Tallahassee and then decided he wanted to finish his final season of basketball out west when he picked Arizona State.

Marshall, who has graduated and can play right away, averaged 15.3 points per game for the Nittany Lions, but has never proven to be a great shooter. He’s never hit more than 39% form the floor and more than 34% from three.

I don’t know why he didn’t pick the Seminoles, but if I had to guess, he probably saw what the rest of us see, a crowded back court in Tallahassee.

Leonard Hamilton will have to go with a three-guard lineup this coming season, but he already has to find room for Ian Miller, Devon Bookert, Montay Brandon, Aaron Thomas and incoming freshman Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

Even if I thought Marshall was better than any of those guys (he may be), he certainly wasn’t going to see the 34.6 minutes per game he saw last year at Penn State.

Meanwhile the Sun Devils just lost wings Evan Gordon and Carrick Felix, so Marshall has a shot to jump right in and start right away.
