Duke Solidifies Top 2014 Class

As the sayings go, the rich get richer, and Duke’s on TV more than Leave it to Beaver reruns. The later is certainly the case as the Blue Devils secured the fourth and final commitment to their 2014 recruiting class Justise Winslow.

Winslow a 6-foot-5 small forward form Saint John’s High School in Houston, is the No. 14 overall prospect in the class. He chose Duke over Florida, Stanford, Arizona and UCLA. The versatile forward is a kid that can do a little bit of everything and is a bit of the icing on the recruiting cake.

Just a week ago the Blue Devils got the package deal they had been hoping for in point guard and No. 5 prospect, Tyus Jones, and center and No.1  prospect, Jahlil Okafor. The tandem along with shooting guard and No. 24 prospect, Grayson Allen made Duke’s class of 2014 one of the best but Winslow makes it likely to be the top ranked class by most recruiting services.

The quartet of players will likely assist Duke in restocking after they likely lose Jabari Parker and Rodney Hood to the NBA Draft as well as the departure of seniors, Josh Hairston, Tyler Thornton and grad student Andre Dawkins.

Duke fans everywhere are rejoicing as this will be the fist time in more than a decade that the Blue Devils have had the top recruiting class and it makes it more sweet for some that they are going to out do Kentucky.

However, the problem with restocking with freshmen is that they are all freshman. Only once has a roster chock full of freshmen managed to win a National Title, so history isn’t necessarily on Duke’s side.

Still it is hard to deny the talent that Mike Krzyzewski has compiled in this class and regardless of history, Duke is likely to be one of the favorites to cut down the nets when it is all said in done. In the mean time there is just the hassle of getting through this season where there are no expectations for the current corps of Blue Devils. Oh wait…
