Duke Adds 7-footer Christian Reeves to Scheyer’s Recruiting Haul

In a somewhat surprising development Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils have offered a scholarship and received a commitment from 7’1 Center Christian Reeves, from Oak Hill Academy. The 3-star prospect is currently a teammate of Duke 2023 pledge Caleb Foster at Oak Hill and joins a class that features 5 star prospects Dereck Lively, Dariq Whitehead, Kyle Filipowski and Mark Mitchell as well as 4-star shooter Jaden Schutt.

Reeves held offers from South Carolina, Boston University, Minnesota and East Carolina among others. Reeves is an effective rim protector and shot-blocker but also great touch around the basket. Reeves is coming off of a few injuries so a redshirt for his first season wouldn’t be surprising for the 7 footer. When asked about his skillset by Pittsburgh Sports Now, Reeves said, “I would say my best strengths are finishing around the basket, running the court, blocking shots, and rebounding, my shooting ability has gotten a lot better over this past year. I am knocking down threes now, and I can hit mid-range and free throws as well.”

Reeves is a very raw but emerging player who lost some time both due to COVID restrictions as well as his injuries suffered in a car accident but his game is trending in the right direction. Getting into the Duke strength and conditioning program, working with Amile Jefferson and practicing against Duke’s future front line will pay big dividends for both Christian as well as the program.
